SME 186’s May meeting will be a tour of Clipper Windpower in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Assembly is performed at the Clipper Turbine Works facility in Cedar Rapids. The facility encompasses 330,000 square feet allowing spare parts for support services to also be facilitated from this location.

Clipper's turbine components manufacturing is based on a global supply chain of well-established companies with specialized industrial expertise. Underpinning their core competencies of turbine design, assembly and supply chain management is a culture of quality. Clipper's ISO 9001:2008 compliant Quality Management System "QMS," is designed to manage the full cycle of production from design and manufacturing through ongoing operation and maintenance.

Extensive testing, inspection and checks are performed on components and systems to verify integrity prior to delivery to the project site. Component inventory through serial and lot control ensures knowledge of components utilized within the final assembly.

Park in employee or visitor parking and check in with Security. Safety Glasses are required.

(Attending only the tour is free.)

As always, guests are encouraged to attend, but please note: Attendance for this tour and dinner is limited to 35 people so don’t delay in registering!

Carpooling: Anyone interested in carpooling should meet at 3:30 pm in the front parking lot by the flag poles at Deere’s downtown Westfield site in Waterloo. Nothing formal: people that show up can organize the pool to suit.
